Robert's lips continued to move in silent prayer as he watched the continued footage--the cops were swarming the area, trying to establish a perimeter and cut off any route of escape for the gunman. They were trapped, the students and faculty, all of them cut off from the rest of the world by barricades and flashing lights. It was so easy to think the darker things just then--if one of them should die just then, how long would it take before anyone outside knew it? Hypnotic things, those lights--for an instant Robert flashed back to the night of the accident. He'd been lying there on the cold pavemnet, twisted awkwardly on his side, feeling the squadcars pull up and seeing the lights paint the shattered tibia red-and-blue and red-and-blue and red-and-blue...
A familiar voice from somewhere to the side spoke. Oh, it was that girl who apparently helped run things around here--Rita? Rhea? Reagan! He looked at her intensely.
"She isn't here with you?"
He had feared as much, somehow. That meant she was still out there with the sniper, god-knew-where. Robert couldn't abide that. Turning, he made his way back to the door again.
'That is the Seven, but what of the Nine? What of the ones who chose not to Shine?'

No, she isn't here. I was hoping someone would have seen her... Reagan's voice trailed off. She knew her mischievous friend was probably alright, but she wondered why she wasn't in sight with a shooter around. She watched as Robert walked toward the door again. OK, I will. But where are you going? She hoped he wasn't going off somewhere to look for the other girl.

After turning a corner and passing a man in the hall, Nellie stepped quietly into the office. She turned and blinked once in surprise of seeing someone so suddenly. Pale red curls were brushed back from her face as she asked, "oh, I didn't bother you, did I?" Yet without waiting for a response continued on. Her voice was soft and slightly raspy but quick. "See, I've just transfered here, yesterday morning, actually, I haven't gone to any of the classes yet, not surprising today, I guess, but I can't find one single person who isn't already wrapped up in something or too busy, which is understandable, but I really feel like I'm jumping into some whirlpool without a life raft, you know? Well, anyway, could there possibly be anyone you might know that could maybe help me find out what's going on or what I could do to help?" Nellie then stood stock still and waited anxiously. She really felt awkward coming at this time, especially not knowing anyone. The thought of a shooter made her stomach churn and she clenched the few books she was holding.

Reagan looked from the TV for a moment, seeing the new face. She listened as the girl spoke rapidly. The secretary got up and walked to the girl. No dear, I think the police have got everything from here. Is there anything you need help with?

with relief Nellie nodded. "I need to find out the times of all of my classes, I'm in all the basics and the equine class, I've moved into my dorm room and my horse is settled, but I'm not sure where the pastures and arenas are, and I'd love it if someone had a map of the town so I'd be able to get around there, well, I suppose that's all..." She ran her tounge on the inside of her cheek, thinking. "Oh, and I'd like to know if the trails are open, or if they are closed when they'll be open again, and do you happen to have a phone somewhere around here?"

The secretary scuttled back to her desk and printed out a paper. This is your schedule, and it has all your classes starting times on it. You'll have 7 minutes to get from class to class. Here's a map of the town and the school... The woman got Nellie a map and then continued to talk. As for the trails, they're not open. The police are afraid the killer will try to come back to the crime scene for whatever reason. There's no telling when the trails will be back open. Reagan listened to the two converse. You can use my phone. She managed to say. She picked up her LG Rumor and offered it to the other girl.

Nellie took the sheet and phone with a thanks, saying, "Thank you so much, I just need to call my folks real quick. I know I should've gotten a phone before I came, but everything was so busy and I never thought I'd need it, but of course I never thought this would happen either, so.." She dialed while talking and now her voice faded to wait for it to pick up. Soon after a garbled voice came from it. Nellie nodded to herself. "yeah, I'm good dad, well, sorta, there's been a little shooting accident, but I'm fine.... no, it's okay... yeah I know, could you tell mom for me?... hey, I know, I know, at least tell David..." Her voice raised slightly until she glanced at the other two poeple. "Thanks, yeah, you too. Bye." She hung up and handed the phone back. "Thank you again, oh how rude of me, I'm Nellie Carmichael." The girl offered a worn hand and a what smile she could muster.

Reagan nodded, understanding. When she arrived at the school she expected to be safe-not to be shot at. She listened to the other girls half of the conversation, only guessing what her dad was saying and thinking. When the girl hung up, she extended her hand toward Reagan and introduced herself as Nellie Carmichael. Reagan took her hand and shook it. Reagan Parker. She managed to say. She felt guilty for some reason that Nellie had come at such a horrid time, but t wasn't really her fault. It was beyond her control.

Nellie felt somewhat glad. Finally, there was someone else to talk to. It had been a good while since she'd had a real conversation. Yet at the same time she was tired all at once, like she knew she could rest now, and suppressed a small yawn as she talked. "A pleasure to meet you, and as you probably already know I'm pretty knew here, me and my horse, I imagine you have one?"

Reagan was slowly beginning to feel more relaxed, partly because of Nellie's nature, but mostly because the topic was switching to something she loved- horses. Yeah, I have 5 horses.. She said, feeling a small smile tug at her lips. She tucked her hair behind her ears and looked up at Nellie.

Nellie blinked and smiled. "Wow, you must be so dedicated to them, to take the time to take care of them all, I can't imagine having more than one, what are they like?" She loved her own horse, but she had never been one with time or good at sticking to a schedule. Back at her old home her father would take care of two of the three horses they had, and before the divorce David was the one who helped him.
