Cara put her mares away in their respective stalls and went to her dorm room for a shower before heading to the dreaded appointment with the school nurse.

She dragged her feet as she got closer to the clinic. If there was a good time for a rebellious streak to suddenly hit her, now would be it. No matter what she did, she couldn't make herself turn around and walk in the other direction, twelve years of training had it stamped into her that she had to be obediant, no matter what she was asked, she would obey.

Reaching the clinic, she smiled at the receptionist. "Good afternoon, Ma'am. My name is Cara-Jean Alyssa Kitchi, I was asked to come in this afternoon."

The woman smiled back. "Take a seat my dear, I will tell the nurse you have arrived."

No sooner had Cara sat down but the door on the other side of the waiting room opened and the nurse beckoned for her to follow.

"Don't look so worried, child." She said. "I promise I don't bite." She closed the door behind the young girl and got down to business. "Some of the teachers here are more than a little worried about you." She said as she sat down and picked up a clipboard. "Even though you are not struggling academically, they feel that you aren't doing so well emotionally."

"I don't understand, Ma'am." Cara spoke up.

The nurse nodded as she stood up and collected a light purple gown from her desk. "I would like for you to go through that door there and put this own, noting underneath. And then come back out here and you can just on the scale for me."

"Yes, Ma'am." The young girl said as she tookthe gown and went through the door the woman had pointed towards. Shedding her clothes, she stepped into the robe and tied it behind her back. Leaving the bandages on her arms, she walked back out.

"This way, please." The nurse said as she led the way to the large scale that stood by the grated window. "Bandages off too, please. And on you hop."

Cara unwound the bandages and left them on the chair not too far from the scale. Taking a deep breath, she stepped onto the scale, drawing in a sharp breath as her feet touched the cold metal.

"How tall are you, Cara?"

"A little under five feet, Ma'am."

The nurse nodded as she adjusted the weights until the scale was level. "What happened to your wrists?"

Cara looked away from what the woman was doing. "I slit them when I was twelve, Ma'am." She said in no more than a whisper. "I wanted my parents and it seemed the easiest way. I should have gone for the jugular."

The nurse's eyebrows shot up. "Are you still feeling that way?"

Cara looked her in the eye, her eyes flashing with defiance. "If I still felt that way, I would not be bandaging my arms to keep them protected, Ma'am." She replied. "May I get off the scale?"

The nurse nodded. "You weigh 80 pounds, my dear. Ninety is the minimum suggested weight for your height, and that is pushing it. I don't like girls your age to be below 100." She wrote something down on the clipboard she picked up again. "I would like you to come and see me every monday afternoon, around this time. You may go and get back into your own clothes."

"Yes, Ma'am." Cara picked up her bandages and headed back into the smaller room, removed the robe, stepped back into her own clothes and then folded the robe back up again before heading out and placing it on the desk it had come from.

"Next week we will talk about what you are, or aren't, eating. I'll also take a closer look at your wrists. If those scars do end up breaking, please come and see me at once." The nurse said. "You are free to leave."

"Thank you, Ma'am." Cara said as she walked out of the office and left the clinic.
